LCC also offers areas of study in Health Sciences in Associate Degree Nursing, Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene, Dietetic Technician, Medical Assisting, Practical Nursing, Radiography, and Surgical Technology. Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Dental Hygiene, and Dental Assisting programs are offered as a collaborative program with other colleges.

“The programs offer an opportunity for challenging and rewarding careers to individuals interested in health care and treatment,” said LCC Health Sciences and Nursing Dean Dr. Alexis Welch. “We are preparing our graduates for employment in facilities such as hospitals, physicians’ offices, nursing homes, home health care, and other health care agencies.”

Associate Degree Nursing provides individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide nursing care to clients and groups of clients throughout the lifespan in a variety of settings. Graduates are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN), which is required for practice as a Registered Nurse.

Dental Assisting prepares students to assist in the delivery of dental treatment and to function as integral members of the dental team while performing chairside and related office and laboratory procedures. Graduates may be eligible to take the Dental Assisting National Board Examination to become Certified Dental Assistants.

Dental Hygiene provides students with the knowledge and skills to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate dental hygiene care for the individual and community. Graduates may be eligible to take national and state/regional examinations for licensure, which are required to practice dental hygiene.

Nutrition and Dietetics Technician prepares students to promote optimal health through proper nutrition by providing personalized services to meet client’s needs and ensure balanced diets. Graduates work under the supervision of a registered, licensed dietician.

Medical Assisting prepares multi-skilled health care professionals qualified to perform administrative, clinical, and laboratory procedures. Graduates may be eligible to take the American Association of Medical Assistants Certification Examination to become Certified Medical Assistants. The program is accredited by CAAHEP and the AAMA.

Practical Nursing program prepares individuals with the knowledge and skills to provide nursing care to children and adults. Students will participate in assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care. Graduates are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN), which is required for practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Radiography prepares graduates to be a radiographer, a skilled health care professional who uses radiation to produce images of the human body. Graduates are eligible to apply to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists national examination for certification and registration as medical radiographers. The radiography program is accredited by JRCERT.

Surgical Technology program prepares individuals to assist in the care of the surgical patient in the operating room and to function as a member of the surgical team. Students of Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) accredited programs are required to take the national certification exam administered by the National Board on Certification in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) within four weeks before or after graduation.
